Camp GLOW (Guys and Girls Leading Our World) is a worldwide project that helps teach leadership skills to promising youth. In Namibia, Camp GLOW will take place from April 28th to May 5th. During this week, 80 students (40 boys, 40 girls) from all over Namibia will come together in Windhoek to participate in activities that will encourage youth leadership through self-esteem building, development of good decision-making skills, and promotion of goal-setting and career aspirations.
Four students from Omahila Combined School have been chosen from a large pool of applicants to attend Camp GLOW 2012. Many of these kids have never left their village, so simply going to Windhoek (the country’s capital) and meeting students from all over Namibia will have a profound effect on their lives. In addition, leadership skills are often overlooked in the school curriculum, so Camp GLOW may be the only opportunity these students will have to enhance their natural leadership abilities.
Camp GLOW is absolutely free for all chosen participants. This is especially important to students from rural villages (like Omahila) whose parents could not normally afford the high cost of transportation, food and accommodation for such a camp. Attending Camp GLOW is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am so thrilled that four of my most talented and hardworking students will represent Omahila.
David, the only learner from Omahila that attended Camp GLOW 2011.
This year we are very lucky to have 4 students representing our school!
